K1 COMET Projects
The ideal environment for funded innovation
As a K1 COMET Competence Centre, RCPE participates in projects supported by the COMET funding programme, which covers up to 50% of research-related costs. Unlike many other funding schemes, COMET K1 projects benefit from streamlined application processes and fewer regulatory constraints. By leveraging already secured funding, you eliminate the uncertainty and the risk of wasted resources on unsuccessful grant applications in highly competitive funding schemes. Projects must align with RCPE’s scientific focus and generate new scientific knowledge. Each consortium requires at least one scientific and two industrial partners, making this an ideal framework for exploring innovative ideas that will give you the competitive edge – with balanced risk and investment.
NonK Projects
Flexible collaboration models
There are two main ways to engage with RCPE apart from K1 COMET Projects: either through fully self-funded collaborations or by jointly applying for external funding opportunities.
- Self-Funded NonK Projects: These are entirely financed by the project consortium, offering maximum flexibility and customization without the restrictions of public funding regulations. This model is ideal for clients seeking bespoke solutions tailored to their unique challenges.
- Externally Funded NonK Projects: In addition to self-funding, NonK projects can be partially subsidized through national and international funding programmes, such as the European Union’s Framework Programme, further reducing costs while maintaining project flexibility.
Contractual Research Projects (Service Projects)
Tailored contract research
In contractual research projects, RCPE acts as a service provider, delivering specific research and development tasks fully financed by one or more clients. These projects are independent of external funding and are designed to address precise client needs with agility and confidentiality. Clients retain full ownership of all intellectual property generated during these projects.

Full Time Equivalent (FTE) Contract
Long-term collaboration with a fixed R&D quota
One innovative collaboration option is the “subscription model,” where you secure a fixed amount of FTE (full-time equivalent) expertise for a year or more. Instead of being assigned a single contact, you benefit from a dedicated team of experts who are matched to your evolving needs and priorities. This model ensures you always have access to the right expertise at the right time, with priority access to RCPE’s resources.
